The present study aims to present a short history of the Romanian legislation regarding adoption in order to enhance a better understanding of the development of this institution according to the latest modifications of the Romanian law. By invoking the Roman roots of the institution of adoption, summarizing the most relevant modifications of the process of the Romanian codification and briefly reviewing the latest Romanian legislation regarding this topic, the authors hope to provide a better insight for the readers into the legal and sociological development of adoption and thus, facilitate the optimal interpretation and application of law.
