 Results of Government Implementation Strategy

The data shows at the census from 2002 there are 536,000 Roma people in Romania, though their leaders suppose that their number is higher (1,5 million). Just a third part of them have a constant job, among which only 50% develop a qualified activity. Most of them do not benefit from the social insurances and protection the state offers. Only 50% from children go to school and the degree of illiteracy among people over 45 is of 30%. Lack of investment in education and the effects of the biases have generated a reduced access on the labor market and, obviously, poverty among Roma communities is high.
