The psychiatric myths and especially those related to schizophrenia can negatively influence the therapeutic approach and the course of the person suffering from a psychotic disorder. The psychopharmacological therapy proved its effectiveness in controlling the symptoms of the disease, but also its limitations. The multifactorial etiology of psychosis in general and of schizophrenia in particular, shows the need for a comprehensive approach to this disease according to the bio-psycho-social concept. Probably only psychopharmacological approach can solve the biological condition but not the psychological, social and vocational issues caused by this disorder. A mono modal approach can slowly recover and undermine patient resources of auto recover. The individual is only apparently alone with his illness, he belongs to a family and he is in a relationship of interdependence and mutual influence of the social environment in which the family belongs. An effective therapeutic approach should include psychotherapy as a therapeutic measure binding complementary therapies along with other socio -professional rehabilitation measures. The systemic psychotherapy proved his effectiveness in increasing adherence to treatment and relapse prevention and could be part of the current therapy of schizophrenia. The belief that schizophrenia is per se a contraindication for psychotherapy should remain a mere reference of medicine history.
