The article aims at doing a historical review based on the way in which social work has been conceptualised and linked to the organisational field. This paper refers to the development of professional action, involving social intervention, carried out in profit and non-profit making organisations, which address topics related to management, employees, and quality of work life. In order to do this, we reviewed ninety-one journals that comprise the Social Work Journal collection published from 1970 to 2017 by the School of Social Work of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. The focus of this review was based on articles dealing with industrial social work, business-focused social work and/or labour welfare, and also taking into account social management. We found that the issues and research interests in relation to organisational social work are connected with the social, political and economic context.
