The paper analyzes those restorative approaches that are implemented within the Romanian criminal justice system, and how they can be furthered approached by probation services. The paper also analyzes how probation services in Romania can contribute to the protection of crime victims and presents the results of a study conducted at the Bucharest Probation Service on the offenders’ perceptions regarding the impact of the crime on the victims, as well as how such perceptions are linked with the punishment received and the probationers’ willingness to repair the harm caused.
