 Violence against Women

    by:
  • Elena Zamfir (Professor Ph.D. )

One of the major objectives of the contemporary society is the elimination of women discrimination which was constructed along the history. The development of a society where the women is no longer discriminated neither directly – amid interpersonal relations – nor structural – due to her professional, economic and social-politic position – was not an easy task to complete.
An essential instrument used in the emancipation is due to the gender problematic promotion on the political agenda. The introduction of the women problem in politics programs is being made at the level of content and also at the level of politics mechanisms, as well as in the means of assurance of a systematic presence in politics decision making. From this point of view the attempt to decipher the entire mechanism of women promotion on the politics agenda, regarding violence against women represents a central objective.
The violence against women in the contemporary Romanian society is the result of the following factors: persistence of traditional factors along with the identification of the new social effects. Unfortunately, there is no structured empiric study over the types of violence on women and their frequency or over community attitudes regarding violence.
