Theoretical premises. The phenomenon of drug consumption and abuse, along with its associated crime represents a serious danger to society, with economic, social and psychological consequences. The explosive growth of drug is without doubt one of the most significant threats to public safety, to the health and integrity of the population, with special emphasis when referring to women.

Objectives and scope of the study. The purpose of this study is to identify the risk and protective factors that can support women drug users sentenced to the execution of a custodial sentence, in order to improve their resilience and reintegration into the community after release from prison.
Study objectives: Identifying the psychological and socio-demographic profile of risk groups among drug trafficking and consuming women; Identifying the motivation underlying drug use among women

Methodological specifications. The study was conducted in a women's prison, which held, on the date of realization of the study, 580 women. Of these, 121 were sentenced for drug-related offenses, including trafficking. The research included 94 women who expressed their consent to participate in the study and was conducted with the use of a questionnaire.

Discussions, results and conclusions. Psychological factors and the existential crises that women of today undergo are factors that facilitate consumption, rather than its causes. The study demonstrates on the one hand, the risk factors predisposing women to drug use and their involvement in acts associated with it, while on the other hand highlighting the protective factors, those that can have an essential role in the recuperative treatment of women, applied during the detention period, in view of their social reintegration.
