Empathy and social justice play a significant role in social work, and the literature extensively supports their connection to this profession. The purpose of this study is to examine whether or not social work students have a high level of empathy that is correlated with their willingness to address social justice problems. The first part of the study examines the relationship between family structure, empathy and social justice. The second part investigates how the level of cognitive and affective empathy can predict students' social justice attitudes.
