This paper shows the role that day care centers plays, as social assistence services, for the people with disabilities and their families. For the disabled people who are not profesionally integrated, the option of attending a day care center represents the alternative of participating to the social life, the development of their skills, getting life independence and having a happy life. For the family of the disabled person, the day care center offers the chance to a normal life, the members of the family having the possibility to have time for their professional and personal life , to be active in society. The paper presents the result of a research conducted in two day care centers located in Braila. The research was conducted through the sociological survey method and the questionnaire was used as instrument. The results of the research emphasize the involvement of the state in supporting the disabled people, the impact that day care centers have upon the life of a person with disabilities, upon their families and in society. This paper aims to emphasize the psycho-social problems that the disabled people have in society, being an invitation to further research about the life of the people with disabilities( disability).
