Drug use is one of the most harmful phenomena with a devastating impact on the modern society. Although many individuals and organizations are actively involved in drug prevention campaigns, the increased incidence of drug use is a reality that we need to be aware of. This has led to the need to develop effective methods to provide an alternative to recovery for those who have already experienced drug use and become addicted. However, these methods often prove ineffective when drug users experience relapses and return to their old habits. In this case, can relapse be considered the failure of a therapeutic method or the deliberate choice of the drug user to reuse them? This article aims to present the characteristics of drug use and the rehabilitation process, the factors which determine relapse, and the important role that the therapeutic community has in preventing relapse.
