Quality of Life, Protection and Assistance

Protecting and promoting the well-being of children have been on the international and the European agenda for many years now. In spite the measures that national governments have taken in order to meet this goal, the position of children in the society is vulnerable and they are still exposed to maltreatment. Social workers and professionals in child protection services still struggle to learn more about helping children to thrive, as well as safeguarding them from domestic and other violence.

The purpose of this issue is to provide a platform to discuss recent developments in safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children. In the last years researchers and professionals working in this area have accumulated large knowledge base information they want to share.

We expect the contribution of Romanian or world wide researchers, social workers and other professional child workers, to elaborate on policy measures and procedures to protect child wellbeing and to help abused children. This issue of the Social Work Review calls for research-based articles and rigorous meta-analyses on the different dimensions of child abuse and neglect (CAN). The topics to be covered in this special issue include, but are not limited to:

  • Epidemiology data on CAN in present societies
  • Sexual Abuse of Children, Child Pornography and Cyber Sexual Abuse
  • Poverty and Social Exclusion of Children
  • Trafficking, Migration, and Child Labor
  • Risk and Protective Factors (individual, family, community, and societal levels)
  • Consequences and Treatment of CAN
  • Evidence Based Services to Promote Wellbeing of Children (investigation, case management, counseling, psychotherapy etc.).
