Efectul Lucifer în probațiune [Probation Work and the Lucifer Effect]

    by:
  • Cătălin Ionete (Probation Service, Bucharest)

Using Zimbardo’s Lucifer effect as a conceptual frame, I’m describing a situation that occured at the București Probation Service. This situation took about ten years to unfold and, as I will try to show, illustrates in an exemplary manner the conditions under which the so called Lucifer effect can occur and develop. I am fortunate enough to have had first hand knowledge of this situation by being directly involved in it, and also by having acces to a document that was put together by a number of probation counsellors and which serves as my primary source in this endeavor.
