Due to the international geopolitical context and internal social changes, in the last decade the consumerism of the illicit drugs grew considerably in Romania reaching the dimensions of the social phenomena. Its evolution was upward at the early 1990, though we can assert that the drug consumerism in Romania is less severe compared with other East-European countries. The growth tendencies of the consumerism, the introduction of a possible rise of HIV prevalence among injectable drugs consumers, are problems that require a firm answer from the authorities.
