What does ageing mean? What are the changes and transformations that a person suffers while faced with this irreversible process? What are the specific problems of the elder population that the social work systems must be ready to meet? Is society ready to handle the problems experienced by older people? Is each and everyone of us ready to deal with this issue?
This article took shape based on the emerging questions hereabove, which we find to be of a crucial importance for all human beings, of all ages and from all areas. We believe that the proportion of people negatively affected by old age could be considerably reduced if all the young and adult people would be properly informed on the psychological and social implications of ageing. The special needs, the inevitable transformations of the body, the specific problems, life experiences and worries of the elderly are all important aspects of society’s biggest goal – the creation of social and personal wellbeing.
