Adolescent pregnancy and childbirth profoundly shape young mothers’ life trajectories, generating significant physical, emotional, and social changes. These experiences can become traumatic when they occur in contexts marked by vulnerability, poverty, stigma, or limited institutional support. This article examines the trauma associated with adolescent pregnancy and childbirth through an integrative psychological, social, and institutional lens, with particular attention to the experiences of adolescent mothers in Romania, as reflected in international literature and recent national data. The discussion highlights the mechanisms through which trauma emerges and is perpetuated, and outlines potential intervention strategies for social work professionals, aligned with trauma-informed principles.
