 Gerontological Social Work in Romania: a Students’ Perspective

What do students in social work and sociology know about abuse against older people? Vulnerabilities in older people’s lives, occurrence of abuse and what kind of social work services are available for older people in Romania are addressed. A study among students in social work and sociology, conducted in 2025, shows different perspectives and levels of knowledge by the level of study, as well as different levels of vulnerability for older people depending on different axes of inequality. This paper aims at emphasizing the importance of gerontological studies in Romania, but not only, and the importance of knowing details about available social services and support for older people victims of abuse.
