Evaluation of social services

Issue no 4 of the Social Work Review, coordinated by editors Nicoleta Neamţu, Associate Professor at Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and Ştefan Cojocaru, Associate Professor at Alexandu Ioan Cuza University in Iaşi, is dedicated to the theme Evaluation of social services.

The concept of evaluation of social services is used in a broader sense and synonym with the evaluation of social programs. According to the definition and typology of social services stipulated by the Romanian legislation in force and the established sense of the term in the international specialty literature, the concept includes both the evaluation of primary and specialized social work services and the evaluation of other social services.

We encourage the submission of articles from practitioners in managerial position, professional offering direct social services, academics, researchers and candidates to PhD and MA degrees interested in this field.

This issue is focused on the following key topics:

  1. Theories and perspectives on the evaluation of social services (sociological, political, judicial, managerial, administrative, ethical, interdisciplinary, etc.);

  2. The methodology of social services evaluation (diversity of projection, methods, techniques, instruments, evaluation of the evaluativeness of social programs, the methodological critique of social services evaluation, methodological difficulties, the utility of diverse evaluation methodologies, etc.);
  3. The practice of social services evaluation (section which includes empirical evaluation studies of diverse social programs, offered to diverse vulnerable groups: children, youth, elderly, adults with disabilities, persons with chronic illnesses, persons addicted to alcohol or drugs, unemployed, poor families, homeless persons, others. This section encourages examples of good practice, analysis on the Romanian and international legislation concerning the evaluation of social programs, and case studies);
  4. Other aspects referring to the evaluation of social services (critical essays, reviews of relevant publication in the field, legislative proposals, announcements from professional organizations relevant to the topic, etc).

The deadline for submitting articles and studies for No. 4 of the Social Work Review is September 1, 2010. The materials are to be submitted electronically at the email: ncneamtu10@yahoo.com.
