The current article presents partial findings of an IDEI research conducted in 2008: ‘Behavioural rehabilitation of offenders. Client-probation councillor relationship, a basis for the probation activity’. This research was financed by the University of Bucharest. In the first part of the paper, a general juridical and criminological context of the research is outlined. In the second part, eight ‘pains of probations’ are described as they are perceived by the subjects included in this study. In the last part, some possible implications of these findings on the desistance process are introduced. As a way of closing this article, the author makes some suggestions on how these ‘pains’ could be scrutinised from other perspectives.
