Starting with 1990 Romania has been in the period of a major change of perspective in the orientation of strategies and policies of the protection of the child. We dealt practically with the transition from a protection centralized system, based basically on the institutionalisation of the child with problems to a modern system of protection centred on the obedience of the child’s rights, the prevention of the abandonment, on his integration and reinsertion in the family. Gradually, the area of knowledge of the child’s problems extended from the identification to the handling of the effects – street children, abandonment, and infant rape – to the identification of bad treatments applied to family children and/or to the protection institution, as well as to the generating causes.
