Adolescence can be marked by numerous challenges among which stigmas. Stigma is about difference rather than deficit, and it can be attached to numerous areas, of which half also apply to adolescents. Some of these areas have been analysed more (fat/ obese/ weight stigma) than others (alcohol abuse, consumption, intellectual abilities). Stigmas have been studied from a dual perspective – of the stigmatised adolescents and of the stigmatisers (educators, family, institutions, peers, etc.). Stigmas in adolescents result, as in adults, in considerable health, social and psychological costs for the society.
