This study summarizes the social media theories explaining how we understand the reality and the difference between the reality and our perception. Often, especially during those days, we receive a lot of information and we are overwhelmed by the amount of data we have to process. It is difficult to choose what we really need and sometimes we cannot make the difference between right and wrong or useful and garbage. The study examines the most relevant theories in communication and mass media, the analysis helping us to understand the process we use to code and decode the reality.
