One of the most difficult problematic situations to which social work had to deal with during the transition time was the high number of children affected with HIV virus. Just after 1990, Romania shocked the international public opinion as well as specialized services with the demographic and geographic concentration of AIDS cases. Especially the generation of the newly born children during 1987 – 1989 was severely affected where certain countries gave impressive numbers of seropositive affected children. (Constanţa, Giurgiu, Bucureşti, Hunedoara, Galaţi).
