The global reality of covid19 presents international disasters for many countries from both the developing and developed countries. Whilst covid19 is a health pandemic globally, it however has more psychosocial and socioeconomic consequences for women as opposed to men in South Africa. This article critically discusses the triple challenges of poverty, HIV and AIDS, and gender-based violence manifesting in bio-psychosocial and socioeconomic challenges facing women in South Africa. Narrative literature review was applied and thematic analysis helped in analyzing and exposing the triple challenges facing women in the country. Reviewed literature exposed that the covid19 pandemic has exacerbated and increasingly exposed women to poverty, gender-based violence and increased health complications from HIV and AIDS. The social subornation, oppression and abuse of women has been found to be significant factors towards exacerbating the effects of poverty, gender-based violence and health issues for women in South Africa during lockdowns and beyond. The paper recommends significant social intervention measures that may assist social work and other interventionist to ameliorate the devastating and widespread impact of the triple challenges facing women in South Africa.
