This paper critically evaluates the complex vulnerabilities faced by marginalized youths and probes the crucial role of social workers in addressing these vulnerabilities at different levels to improve the mental health of these youths. Based on contemporary concepts of equity, inclusivity, this paper contends that distress among youths is not located within them but is rather situated at different levels of structural, relational, educational, and community-based inequities. This is because social workers have unique opportunities to intervene at all these levels to improve material stability, effective implementation of equitable education policies, effective functioning of families, and overall community capacity. Additionally, social workers also have opportunities to empower youths to overcome stigma and participate actively in all decisions regarding their lives through culturally nuanced social work practice.
