A significant portion of Social Work and Nursing students' learning experiences involves practice in clinical settings. Clinical settings provide opportunities for students to develop skills, apply scientific principles in providing care, and make clinical judgments in real situations. Clinical practice allows students to learn effective methods of reasoning and approaching clients' problems, as well as to become socialized into the profession. The primary aim of Social Work and human services practice is to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of individuals, families, groups and communities. Social Work is a value-based profession (Chenoweth and McAuliffe, 2008). Models of practice in both Social Work and Nursing will be presented in order to show the value of clinical practice and its contribution to the socialization process in both Nursing and Social Work.
