Fieldwork practicum and international fieldwork practice are intensely debated in academic journals of social work. In this article the authors adopt a comparative perspective on the organization and the practicalities of social work practicum in two different socio-economic contexts: Romania and the USA. After the comparative presentation of information from regulatory documents in use at two universities and the personal experiences of fieldwork instructors involved in the practicum the authors conclude with a list of recommendations for the improvement of field education.
