The first issue of 2021 of the Social Work Review aimed to present original articles on the transformations of the field in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID – 19 disease, is a topic of general interest worldwide. This virus changed the daily life of the population, the way of carrying out the activities of public and private institutions, as well as the process of intervention of social workers, having both destabilizing and mobilizing effects on several levels. Through this issue, we propose a clearer understanding of the psychosocial and political consequences caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The topicality of the subject attracted a large number of interested researchers, resulting in the publication of 19 articles written as a single author or in teams. The summary is varied, presenting research conducted mainly in Romania, but also 3 results of research from South Africa, Great Britain and Italy were published.
Thus, Misheck Dube presented research on the prospects for social work and the situation and status of women in South Africa and an article on family placement in the same country, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Doctor of Sociology Remus Runcan published an article on social work and social distancing, and Simona Alexa and Loreni Baciu on the access to education of children with reduced opportunities, describing the experience of some non-governmental organizations in Romania.
A team led by the scholar from Brasov, Claudiu Coman, presents a research on the phenomenon of fake news and communication on online platforms in the context of pandemic restrictions.
Professor Stephen Cutler, along with Corina Ilinca and Loredana Ivan were accepted for publication with an article on visual, auditory and cognitive disabilities in the elderly.
Mrs. Patricia Runcan has published research on the social implications and limitations of the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus pandemic.
Authors Alina Maria Breaz and Henrietta Torkos were accepted with an article about the educational consequences of alcoholism among the elderly, in the circumstances generated by Covid-19.
An article on the connection between quality of life, happiness and parental acceptance in the context of the pandemic was accepted for the authors Beatrice Sarkadi and Mona Vintilă.
A research led by psychologist Adelina Ştefănuţ, with a theme on gender and age differences regarding depression, anxiety and stress in the context of Covid-19 is of interest, as it is a cross-sectional study.
Sociologists Laurenţiu Gabriel Ţîru and Cristina Opran were accepted with the publication of an article on employee burnout in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
A research on loneliness and social isolation of the elderly in Drobeta-Turnu-Severin was conducted by a team formed by Vulcănescu Marinela team, Luiza Vlaicu, Dănuţ Bălăuţă and Gabriela Jivanov.
Psychologist Otilia Tudorel, together with doctor Venera Bucur were accepted with the publication of an article about demographic factors in relation to the anxiety generated by Covid-19.
A topic on the challenges for social workers in residential centers in the west of the country was published by Mrs. Loredana Trancă.
A research on the transformation of challenges into opportunities in the practicum online training of future social workers describes current elements in university education in the field and is conducted by a team formed by Loreni Baciu and Loredana Trancă.
Sociologist and criminologist Luca Vincenti has published research on the challenges of mass communication in the context of Covid-19, with some implications for social work.
Also accepted for publication was a paper by PhD student Mihaela Rada on child abuse in the family, in the context of the pandemic, with results on the psychological and social work perspective.
Psychologists Ileana Costea and Andreea Fiţ published a paper on social perceptions, physical distancing and depression and anxiety in Romania, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The diversity and timeliness of the articles accepted for publication provide useful results for researchers and practitioners in the field of social work and can create the basis for the development of new publications as this health crisis continues throughout the year 2021.
