The significance of practice learning is increasingly being recognised. In the United Kingdom it occupies a full 50% of the curriculum for social work, and practice educators (those who teach social work students on placements) are required to develop specialist skills in recognition that teaching social work is not the same as practising it. Moreover, we have a growing body of research evidence in the field of practice learning (much of it, in the UK, commissioned by the Practice Learning Taskforce during its productive four year life).
