As a result of the pandemic context at the beginning of 2020, detention facilities in Romania took steps to limit the risk situations regarding the infection with the SARS-Cov-2 virus of inmates, of employees and of other people with whom they interact. These restrictive and preventive measures have had an impact on the social workers’ activity in terms of interaction with inmates, with their relatives, with members of the multidisciplinary team, as well as with other social actors with which social workers collaborate. This study explores the strategies for adapting the activity of social workers from detention facilities in western Romania during the COVID-19 pandemic using a descriptive research design based on the semi-structured individual interview method and the semi-structured group interview. The study participants were 13 social workers working in the four detention facilities in Western Romania. The practical implications of this study aim to expand the strategies for adapting the activities of social workers participating in the study and other detention facilities in the country or abroad, especially in the case of new pandemics. Other research will investigate whether the measures implemented during this period will be maintained in the future and in what form.
